Durham, United Kingdom Northumbrian Water Full time

About the role

Northumbrian Water provides water and wastewater services across the North East and operating as Essex & Suffolk Water, supplies customers in parts of Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk with drinking water in the most challenging circumstances in the UK. With the lowest rainfall and highest evapotranspiration rates anywhere in the country, we pride ourselves on our ability to manage our precious water resources carefully, providing a reliable source of water to our customers while striving to maintain the highest environmental standards in our rivers.

As our Water Resources Planner focusing on regulatory reporting, you will have a key role in our dynamic Water Resources Team, which is responsible for both short term operational and long term water resource management and planning across both our Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water operating regions.

You will coordinate and contribute to the preparation and submission of regulatory data and accompanying regulatory written reports. This role is integral to the preparation of regional water resources plans, our company Water Resources Management Plans (WRMP) and associated WRMP Annual Review Reports, our company Supply Demand Balance Index (SDBI) submissions, Abstraction Returns, and Annual Performance Review.

You will be responsible for collating weekly resource information to support short term operational water resource management. Your contribution to longer term planning will be through the assessment of Target Headroom and Outage Allowance, and the collation of operational and water treatment works process losses data, all three of which feed into the supply demand balance, which is the basis of the water resources planning process.

You will also be responsible for collating demand and supply side data, populating water resources planning tables and the preparation and presentation of water resource zone supply demand balances. You will support the regular review and update of our company Drought Plans, as well as the annual Drought Plan Health Checks.

Please note this role may require a DBS to be completed prior to employment.

About you

You will be self-motivated, proactive, and organised, with attention to data accuracy and detail, ensuring robust audit trails are maintained. You will be highly numerate with an aptitude for and experience in data collation, manipulation, analysis, and presentation. You will have the ability to provide clear, concise narrative to explain data outputs to both technical and non-technical audiences. Therefore, you will need to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

You will ensure methods are compliant with regulatory and industry best practice guidance, and appropriately aligned with other companies in our regions under the Water Resources East and Water Resources North East regional water resources planning processes.

The successful candidate will have a degree qualification in a scientific or numerical subject. Experience in preparing regulatory data reports, and an awareness of Water Resource Planning and Drought Planning principals would be advantageous. You will be able to work collaboratively and build strong team relationships. You will be committed to continual improvement of data collection, collation, and assessment processes, ensuring we maintain the highest quality and accuracy of regulatory data returns.

You will require a valid driving licence for travel to office bases within and outside our operational areas to attend meetings.

Here at Northumbrian Water/Essex & Suffolk Water, we embrace and value Diversity, Inclusion and Equity which means bringing your full self to work. We encourage and welcome all applications, as we believe and strive to be an equal opportunity employer committed in having a diverse community represented within all our teams, structures, and organisation.
