Job Introduction

Are you an inspiring creative leader with a passion for delivering value to all audiences across Scotland?

The BBC is looking for an outstanding leader to shape the future of BBC Scotland's programming and services across online, television and radio. You'll be a natural collaborator with the ability to bring teams together to deliver standout content that fires the imagination of all our audiences.

BBC Scotland is the home of Rebus, Sportscene, Gaelic programming, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Reporting Scotland; and we deliver a wide range of broadcast and online services including BBC Radio Scotland, the BBC Scotland channel and the BBC News, Sport & iPlayer apps.

As Director of BBC Scotland, you will inspire high-impact creativity that makes its mark on both Scottish and UK-wide services, lead the transformation of our services for the online age, and champion compelling, impartial journalism in all its forms. You'll also support the development of Scotland's production community - working with talented BBC Scotland colleagues across the country and a diverse range of partners in the independent sector.

You will report to the BBC's Director of Nations.

Role Responsibility

As the Nations Director in Scotland, you will be the driving force of BBC Scotland's editorial vision, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, diverse and distinctive content that resonates with both national and UK audiences. Your leadership will be key in meeting the BBC's creative, audience, and financial goals while upholding our core values and public purposes.

You will:
  • Lead content and editorial development across all platforms, inspiring creativity and innovation.
  • Deliver a compelling portfolio of content and programming to serve all audiences across Scotland.
  • Lead engagement with national and creative stakeholders, championing the BBC's strategy and its impact in Scotland.
Are You the Right Candidate?

We are seeking a dynamic leader with:
  • Ability to drive and shape BBC Scotland's long-term planning and innovative approaches.
  • Thought leadership, creativity, and clear direction.
  • Skill in managing diverse senior and executive-level stakeholders, driving significant change.
  • Deep understanding of the media landscape, including economic, commercial, and political influences.
  • Proven experience in the creative sector and/or with senior external/governmental stakeholders.
  • Persuasive communication and negotiation abilities with senior stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive understanding of content commissioning, financing and production processes.
Why Join Us?

BBC Scotland offers a unique opportunity to influence the media landscape, create impactful content and lead a dedicated team in a dynamic and supportive environment. If you are a strategic leader with a passion for media and a track record of driving excellence, we want to hear from you.
