Role Overview:

The successful candidate will function at a consultant level, delivering professional leadership and specialized advice on virological matters within a national framework. This role is pivotal in advancing the objectives outlined in the Public Health Microbiology (PHM) Strategy for Scotland and addressing the identified gaps in Public Health Microbiological Services.

The Consultant will provide expert consultation on laboratory processes related to microbiology and virology, ensuring that these elements effectively contribute to data, information products, and business process improvements. Collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders will be essential in achieving the strategic goals of Public Health Scotland.

Additionally, the role involves leading initiatives that provide expert guidance on microbiology and virology incident management, fostering partnerships with a diverse range of strategic stakeholders.

Candidate Profile:

We seek a Consultant Clinical Scientist with extensive experience and knowledge in Virology, particularly within the health protection and public health sectors at a senior level. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize effectively, and experience in managing relationships with various stakeholders in a dynamic environment.

Current HCPC registration is a prerequisite for this position. There may also be opportunities for the successful candidate to engage in laboratory work or academic collaborations to maintain their expertise.
