As a Clinical Scientist with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in the Scottish Microbiology Laboratories (SMiRL) at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

SMiRL is responsible for providing specialist and reference testing for a wide range of pathogens, as well as supporting clinical decisions, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, vaccine surveillance, public health policy formulation, and outbreak management for the Scottish population.

You will be a key member of the team responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive range of highly specialised phenotypic and molecular techniques for use with the Scottish Microbiology Reference Laboratory (SMiRL), Glasgow.

These methods demand highly skilled performance, and you will contribute to the quality control of the laboratories phenotypic and molecular methods.

You will be responsible for service development of methods as required, contributing to molecular developments projects within the department, including the use of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).

You will contribute to routine reporting of reference laboratory results, preparation of other reports, clinical audit, applied research, and training of medical, scientific and technical staff.

You will work independently, autonomously, and unsupervised, delegating, reviewing and organising the work of your team in SMiRL.

You will provide reciprocal cover and support for other Clinical Scientists in the department, providing leadership to other members of staff and ensuring the continuation of service delivery.
