Position Overview:

The successful candidate will operate at a consultant level, offering professional guidance and specialized insights on virological matters within a national framework. This role is pivotal in shaping the strategic direction of NHS Scotland.

The incumbent will be instrumental in executing the Public Health Microbiology Strategy, ensuring the delivery of effective virology services across the organization.

Responsibilities include providing expert advice on laboratory processes related to microbiology and virology, influencing data and information products, and supporting internal and external stakeholders.

The consultant will lead initiatives that involve collaboration with various strategic partners, offering guidance on incident management and response related to microbiological and virological challenges.

Candidate Profile:

We seek a Consultant Clinical Scientist with extensive experience and expertise in Virology, particularly within health protection and public health settings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders in a dynamic environment.

Current HCPC registration is mandatory at the time of application. Opportunities may exist for the candidate to maintain laboratory expertise or engage in academic partnerships.

Successful candidates will undergo a background check as part of the recruitment process.

Work Environment:

This position offers flexibility with the potential for hybrid working arrangements. The standard work pattern is Monday to Friday, with a commitment of up to 37 hours per week.

In times of public health emergencies, there may be a requirement to extend working hours temporarily to meet service demands.
