About NHS Scotland

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde stands as the largest healthcare system and teaching Board in Scotland, managing an annual budget of approximately £4.2 billion. With a workforce of around 41,000, we deliver a comprehensive range of services including Acute, Mental Health, Community, and Primary Care to a diverse population of 1.2 million across six local authority areas. Our services also extend regionally and nationally across various clinical specialties.

We are in search of a transformative senior leader to fill the role of Director of Human Resources for Corporate Services. The ideal candidate will possess a proven history of success in harmonizing strategic implementation with operational execution.

Our Corporate Services Directorates play a pivotal role in supporting our clinical services to ensure the delivery of exceptional care. We employ nearly 4,000 individuals across various teams, including the Board Medical Directorate, Board Nursing Directorate, eHealth, Corporate Communications, Finance, Human Resources, Organisational Development, and Public Health.

This is an opportune moment to join our organization as we navigate the recovery phase from recent challenges and advance our transformational healthcare strategy, 'Moving Forward Together', aimed at enhancing health and healthcare outcomes for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde population.

Role Overview

The Director will provide direct support to Corporate Directors and their leadership teams, addressing all Human Resources-related matters within these Directorates. This role is crucial in ensuring an adequate workforce supply and enhancing staff experience.

This position will also assist the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development with the Remuneration Committee and the Executive and Senior Manager Performance Appraisal cycle.

With a professional link to the Depute Director of Human Resources, the appointee will serve as a key member of the senior team in Human Resources and Organisational Development, collaborating with other Heads of Human Resources on various initiatives.

Our Heads of Human Resources play a vital role in supporting the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development in the development and execution of our workforce strategy and plans, which are essential for cultivating a skilled and engaged workforce capable of delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

We seek to appoint a highly qualified and experienced Director of Human Resources, with a solid track record in leading and facilitating change within an organization that engages multiple stakeholders while ensuring the highest quality of Human Resources service delivery. The ability to adapt style and confidently operate at a senior level in a complex and dynamic NHS environment is crucial for this role.

We are looking for an individual who can serve as a strategic change agent, supporting workforce planning, modernization, engagement, and performance. The successful candidate will bring a fresh, innovative, and collaborative approach to enhancing performance and practices across our Human Resources function.

Candidate Profile

The role requires a candidate with a demonstrated commitment to delivering top-tier Human Resources services, consistently striving for improvement to ensure safe, high-quality, and cost-effective services with a patient-centered focus.

Applicants must showcase extensive knowledge and expertise in Human Resources management, strategy, and policy development, including service improvement and sustainability, financial and capacity planning, and a proven record in organizational redesign and change implementation. A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field (or equivalent relevant experience) is required, along with membership in the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

The position involves managing multiple competing demands, necessitating proven experience in a senior Human Resources leadership role within a similarly scaled and complex organization, whether in the NHS or the broader Public/Private sector. Strong communication and influencing skills are essential attributes.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde values diversity and encourages applications from all community sectors. We promote an inclusive culture within our organization and take pride in our diverse workforce.

We look forward to receiving your application.
