About NHS Scotland

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde stands as the largest healthcare system and educational Board in Scotland, managing an annual budget of approximately £4.2 billion and employing around 41,000 personnel. We deliver a comprehensive array of Acute, Mental Health, Community, and Primary Care services to a diverse population of 1.2 million across six local authority areas, alongside regional and national services across various clinical specialties.

We are in search of a transformative senior leader to take on the role of Director of Human Resources for Corporate Services, possessing a demonstrated history of success in aligning strategic implementation with operational execution.

Our Corporate Services Directorates play a pivotal role in supporting and enabling our clinical services to provide exceptional care. We employ nearly 4,000 individuals across Corporate Services, encompassing a diverse array of teams, including the Board Medical Directorate, the Board Nursing Directorate, eHealth, Corporate Communications, Finance, Human Resources, Organisational Development, and Public Health.

This is an exciting opportunity to join us as we navigate the recovery phase from recent challenges and advance our transformational healthcare strategy, 'Moving Forward Together', aimed at enhancing health and healthcare outcomes for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde population.

Role Overview

The position offers direct support to the Corporate Directors and their broader leadership teams, overseeing all Human Resources-related matters within these Directorates, ensuring an adequate workforce supply while maximizing employee experience.

This role also assists the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development with the Remuneration Committee and the Executive and Senior Manager Performance Appraisal cycle.

With a professional and performance management link to the Depute Director of Human Resources, the post holder will serve as a vital member of the Human Resources and Organisational Development senior team, collaborating with other Heads of Human Resources on various matters.

Our Heads of Human Resources are instrumental in supporting the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development in developing and executing our workforce strategy and plans, aimed at cultivating a skilled and engaged workforce capable of delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

We seek to appoint a highly experienced and professionally qualified Director of Human Resources, with a proven track record in leading and facilitating change within an organization with multiple stakeholders, ensuring top-tier Human Resources service delivery. The ability to adapt and operate confidently at a senior level in a complex and dynamic NHS environment is essential for this role.

We are looking for an individual who can serve as a strategic change agent, supporting workforce planning, modernization, engagement, and performance. The successful candidate will bring a fresh, innovative, and collaborative approach to enhancing high performance and progressive practices within our Human Resources function.

Candidate Profile

The role requires an individual with a history of delivering best-in-class Human Resources services, with a focus on continuous improvement to achieve safe, high-quality, and cost-effective services, all while maintaining a patient-centered approach.

Applicants must demonstrate extensive knowledge and expertise in Human Resources management, strategy, and policy development, including service improvement and sustainability, financial and capacity planning, along with a proven record in implementing organizational redesign and change. A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field (or equivalent relevant experience) is required, and membership in the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is essential.

The position involves managing multiple competing demands; therefore, candidates must have substantial experience in a senior Human Resources leadership role within a similarly scaled and complex organization, whether in the NHS or the broader Public/Private sector. Exceptional communication and influencing skills are vital attributes for this role.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde values diversity and encourages applications from all community sectors. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture within our organization and take pride in our diverse workforce.

We look forward to receiving your application.
