As a community-based Non-Medical Prescriber Nurse (NMP) or Pharmacist Prescriber within our Connect service, you will play a crucial role in transforming the lives of those grappling with drug and alcohol issues. With a passion for helping others, you will have the opportunity to enhance your own career while gaining valuable experience and training in the nursing or pharmacy field.

Our comprehensive community drug and alcohol service provides support to individuals across Wiltshire. You will operate within a dynamic prescribing service under the guidance of our Clinical Services Manager, collaborating with our Clinical Team, specialist Recovery Workers, and Peer Mentors to improve the health and wellbeing of a diverse clientele.

Key Responsibilities

As a community-based Non-Medical Prescriber Nurse (NMP) or Pharmacist Prescriber in a bustling prescribing environment, your responsibilities will include managing opiate substitute treatments, alcohol and opiate detoxifications, and relapse prevention medications. As part of the broader Wellbeing Team, you will also assist the nursing team with Blood Borne Virus screening and vaccinations, working closely with mental health, physical health, and social care services. You will contribute to fostering a collaborative approach that connects Turning Point with external professionals and agencies.

Your role will involve conducting prescribing clinics, performing health and wellbeing assessments, and participating in multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure robust governance and support team learning and development. You will also deliver targeted and opportunistic clinical interventions, which may include liver elastography, ECGs, Dried Blood Spot Testing (DBST) for blood borne viruses, Pabrinex, Buprenorphine prolonged-release injections, and Hepatitis B vaccinations when clinically indicated.

Participation in prescribers meetings, one-on-one clinical supervision, and national prescriber/clinician meetings will further support your ongoing learning and professional development.

As an employee, you will have access to RCNi to assist with revalidation, along with support from the Clinical Lead (Consultant Psychiatrist), Clinical Services Manager, and Turning Point's Head of Nursing and Head of Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy Services.
