As a community-based Non-Medical Prescriber Nurse (NMP) or Pharmacist Prescriber within our Connect service, you will play a vital role in transforming the lives of those grappling with drug and alcohol issues. Your passion for helping others will be met with opportunities for personal and professional growth, as you acquire the experience and training necessary to advance in your nursing or pharmacy career.

Our comprehensive community drug and alcohol service provides essential support to individuals across Wiltshire. You will operate within a dynamic prescribing service under the guidance of our Clinical Services Manager, collaborating with our Clinical Team, specialist Recovery Workers, and Peer Mentors to enhance the wellbeing of a diverse range of individuals.

Key Responsibilities

As a community-based Non-Medical Prescriber Nurse (NMP) or Pharmacist Prescriber in a fast-paced prescribing environment, your responsibilities will include managing opiate substitute treatments, conducting alcohol and opiate detoxifications, and implementing relapse prevention strategies. As part of the broader Wellbeing Team, you will also assist the nursing team with Blood Borne Virus screening and vaccinations, working closely with mental health, physical health, and social care services. You will foster a collaborative approach that strengthens connections between Turning Point and external professionals and agencies.

Your role will encompass running prescribing clinics, performing health and wellbeing assessments, and contributing to multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure robust governance and support team learning and development. You will also deliver targeted and opportunistic clinical interventions, which may include liver elastography, ECGs, Dried Blood Spot Testing (DBST) for blood borne viruses, Pabrinex, Buprenorphine prolonged-release injections, and Hepatitis B vaccinations when clinically indicated.

Participation in prescribers meetings, one-on-one clinical supervision, and national prescriber/clinician meetings will further enhance your learning and continuous professional development.

As an employee, you will have access to RCNi to assist with revalidation, along with support from the Clinical Lead (Consultant Psychiatrist), Clinical Services Manager, and Turning Point's Head of Nursing and Head of Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy Services.
