Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for proactive and motivated professionals with vision and enthusiasm to become part of the Pharmacy team as a Senior Clinical Pharmacist specializing in Geriatric Care Services.

If you are an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist with experience in hospital pharmacy across various specialties, or possess equivalent knowledge, and are prepared to advance your career, this role may be ideal for you.

This position serves as a developmental role transitioning from Band 6 to Band 7, where you will function as a Clinical Support Pharmacist at a designated site within our rotational program. You will advance to the Senior Clinical Pharmacist role upon demonstrating the necessary competencies indicative of a senior support level.

Applicants with a minimum of 12 months post-registration experience in a hospital setting will be appointed to a progressive position under the relevant pay structure, with the potential for salary enhancement upon completion of the first year of a clinical diploma or equivalent pathway. All candidates will subsequently progress to the independent prescribing course.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide a high-quality specialized clinical pharmacy service, with a strong focus on developing leadership and mentoring capabilities.

Your role will encompass core departmental activities, including the analysis of medication expenditures, clinical governance, and risk management tasks, such as reviewing relevant policies. You will have the opportunity to train in providing specialized services, including neonatal intensive care and parenteral nutrition.

Additionally, you will engage in enhanced responsibilities related to education and training, such as creating training programs and participating in the education of new medical staff. You will oversee the development of less experienced team members, including junior and trainee pharmacists.

We seek a highly motivated team player with excellent communication skills, eager to leverage your expertise to enhance patient care and guide healthcare professionals in the optimal use of medications.

You will collaborate with a team of clinical pharmacists who provide on-call services, supported by Specialist and Advanced Clinical Pharmacists.
