We are looking for a highly qualified, driven, and enthusiastic Lead Clinical Pharmacist to become a vital part of our pharmacy team at Birmingham Women's Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and enhancing the clinical pharmacy services to guarantee that all patients receive outstanding pharmaceutical care. You will oversee the provision of high-quality, proactive, and patient-centered clinical pharmacy services across various specialties, including maternity, gynecology, and neonatal care, particularly in the neonatal intensive care unit. Additionally, you will act as a deputy for the Principal Pharmacist when necessary. Your commitment and expertise will significantly impact our patients' lives each day.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and implement the clinical pharmacy services to ensure exceptional pharmaceutical care for all patients.
  • Coordinate daily operations, oversee additional responsibilities, identify gaps, and create plans to address them.
  • Supervise, motivate, and support the pharmacy team to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Act as a deputy for the Principal Pharmacist as needed.
  • Collaborate with the pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams to initiate service improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient care, efficiency, quality, and safety across various clinical areas.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team and financial meetings to improve patient care, safety, and the cost-effective use of medications.
  • Prepare reports for the directorate, focusing on finance, medication safety, and governance.
  • Support clinical governance processes across divisions, investigate incidents as necessary, and assist in medication optimization.
  • Lead audit and educational initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of guidelines and policies to ensure the safe and effective use of medications in compliance with relevant regulations.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MPharm or equivalent degree.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist.
  • Post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Pharmacist Independent Prescriber.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum of three years post-qualification experience, including substantial hospital experience.
  • Experience in women's health and neonatal pharmacy.
  • Financial management and reporting experience.
  • Report writing experience.
  • Experience in conducting drug usage reviews and audits.
  • Experience in preparing drug evaluations.
  • Experience in formal interactions with senior clinicians and management.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Understanding of the relationship between the Department of Health, Public Health England, and individual providers and commissioning organizations.
  • Sound knowledge of current national standards and guidelines relevant to the safe prescribing of high-risk medications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences, including patients, parents/carers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive, and contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on challenging issues, and present intricate information to large groups.
  • Ability to persuade senior staff regarding the merits of various options, innovations, and new opportunities.
  • Skill in negotiating on complex and detailed issues.

Desirable:

  • Experience in developing business cases.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries.
  • Understanding of current healthcare policy and its implications for engagement.
