Position Overview

Are you passionate about enhancing patient care through innovative pharmacy practices? We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Clinical Pharmacist to join our Surgical Services team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

The ideal candidate will be an integral part of a dynamic clinical pharmacy group, collaborating closely with the Surgical Specialist Pharmacist, medical staff, and nursing professionals. Your role will involve guiding and mentoring junior pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, ensuring optimal patient outcomes during their hospital stay while maintaining direct engagement with patients.

You will need to cultivate effective working relationships, prioritize tasks efficiently, and manage your workload alongside that of your team.

Key Responsibilities

We are in search of a proactive clinical pharmacist with the expertise to operate within a specialized clinical environment. The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills and a commitment to utilizing their knowledge and experience to enhance patient care and guide healthcare professionals in the optimal use of medications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing clinical support to surgical wards and demonstrating advanced knowledge in the clinical specialty.
  • Delivering pharmacy services in alignment with the standards set by the Chief Pharmacist and the Trust.
  • Managing complex and ambiguous clinical scenarios effectively.
  • Making informed decisions with limited information.
  • Exhibiting advanced clinical reasoning and judgment.
  • Ensuring high-quality clinical services and timely screening of prescribed medications.
  • Understanding and implementing Cost Improvement Programs (CIP) to support the specialty and department.
  • Participating in audits and Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) to present at specialty meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Vocational Master's degree in pharmacy (or equivalent).
  • Completion or nearing completion of a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification.
  • Willingness to pursue a non-medical prescribing qualification.
  • Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Essential Experience

  • Post-registration experience as a pharmacist in a hospital setting, covering various specialties.
  • Previous involvement in multidisciplinary teams.
  • A strong commitment to delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care.
  • Experience in educating and presenting to healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development.
  • Relevant clinical knowledge in hospital pharmacy.
  • Familiarity with national guidelines and initiatives.
  • Ability to work with drug budget information.
