Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and skilled pharmacist to join our esteemed multidisciplinary team as a Band 7 Senior Oncology Pharmacist.

We seek a proactive and enthusiastic individual with outstanding communication abilities to leverage and expand their expertise, enhancing patient care and ensuring safe and effective service delivery.

We welcome applications from Band 6 pharmacists looking to advance their careers, with potential progression opportunities available based on experience.

As a tertiary referral Cancer Centre, our organization encompasses multiple outpatient day case units, inpatient wards, a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) service, and bustling outpatient clinics. Our pharmacists are integral to all facets of this service, engaging in both licensed and unlicensed aseptic units, ward pharmacy activities, and various pharmacist-led clinics.

You will become part of a large, supportive team of pharmacists specializing in oncology and haematology. While experience in this specialty is advantageous, it is not mandatory, as comprehensive training will be provided. A solid foundation in clinical hospital pharmacy and a passion for this dynamic field are essential.

Cross-site collaboration across all facilities is anticipated.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of our pharmacy oncology/haematology team, your duties will include:

  • Clinically verifying oncology/haematology prescriptions.
  • Providing inpatient clinical pharmacy services to haematology/oncology wards.
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team in haematology/oncology day units.
  • Ensuring appropriate counselling and support for oral SACT patients regarding their medications.
  • Assisting aseptic services with the final release of SACT products.
  • Facilitating the introduction of new medications into the service, including preparing prescriptions for electronic prescribing systems.
  • Supporting service development initiatives, including pharmacy involvement in outpatient clinics.
  • Contributing to audit and research programs as required.
  • Participating in the on-call rota.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comprehensive clinical knowledge.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Self-motivated and a strong team player.
  • Flexibility to work across various sites.

In return, we are committed to supporting your clinical and professional growth across all aspects of the oncology/haematology service. Upon completion of your diploma, you will have the opportunity to pursue the independent prescribers' course.
