Job Overview

We are looking for a committed and skilled Geriatric Medicine Consultant to become a part of our team at St Andrew's Healthcare. This role focuses on delivering specialized medical services to the elderly inpatient demographic within secure mental health environments.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Clinical Duties: Delivering thorough medical evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments for older patients in secure settings. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to create and execute personalized care strategies that address both physical and mental health requirements. Conducting regular assessments and family consultations to manage complex medical challenges in a secure atmosphere.
  • Leadership and Management: Overseeing a team of healthcare professionals and support staff dedicated to the care of older adults. Ensuring effective communication and teamwork within the multidisciplinary group to enhance patient care. Engaging in clinical governance activities, including quality improvement initiatives tailored to the geriatric population.
  • Collaboration: Working alongside psychiatry, neurology, and social services to ensure comprehensive care for older adults with mental health challenges. Maintaining communication with external agencies to facilitate seamless care transitions post-discharge.
  • Research Contributions: Participating in research initiatives pertinent to geriatric medicine and its intersection with mental health in secure environments. Keeping abreast of the latest developments and best practices in geriatric care.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical degree with full GMC registration.
  • CCT in Geriatric Medicine or equivalent qualifications.
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP or FRCP) or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in managing medical conditions in older adults, particularly in mental health contexts.
  • Proven leadership capabilities within a healthcare framework.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
