Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine to join our esteemed team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This role is pivotal in enhancing the quality of care for older patients experiencing frailty, and it offers a unique chance to influence and develop our services.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing comprehensive clinical services within the Health Care of Older People (HCOP) department.
  • Leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development, including clinical governance and audit activities.
  • Participating in educational initiatives and supervising training for junior staff.
  • Contributing to service development and quality improvement projects.

Clinical Duties

The role includes a commitment to:

  • Delivering direct clinical activities across a 7-day service.
  • Managing acute medical on-call responsibilities, including support for the Acute Medical Unit and inpatient wards.
  • Maintaining a focus on subspecialty interests such as Parkinson's Disease, Continence, Falls, and Frailty.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • MRCP or an equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the GMC and CCST in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine or equivalent, to be achieved within 6 months of the interview.
