Position Overview

This role will report directly to the cluster head for UK and Ireland and plays a critical role in effectively managing the cluster daily. The Chief of Staff (CoS) will offer strategic insights to the cluster head, facilitate communication with key cluster and group stakeholders and will spearhead certain special projects of import to the cluster and globally.

The CoS will act as the central coordinator for the cluster, providing management support to the country heads, provide them with assistance in strategic execution and driving results. The CoS will also support strategic global initiatives across the cluster, foster collaboration and alignment between the countries, and facilitate improved organizational performance.

In addition, the role will be the conduit for governance information across the cluster. The role will act as a key influencer and thought partner ensuring the cluster head is well prepared for all regulatory, board and external stakeholder meetings. Part of the role will be focused on providing adequate challenge providing a contrasting perspective when needed.

Responsibilities:

The role is responsible to the cluster head for UK and Ireland to drive the execution of the cluster strategy and growth plans across all products and geographies; plus support the governance and oversight of the cluster.

At a high level, this includes:

  • Align the strategic plan for the cluster with the overall Investment Services, and Chief Commercial Office objectives and priorities, and monitor actionable items.
  • Coordinate projects/initiatives and commitments directly involving the cluster head and their key priorities.
  • Assist the head of client relationship and client service transformation in driving execution within the program, plus independently own, lead or track special projects for the cluster.
  • Elevate issues/challenges that could potentially impact the execution of business strategy and/or key segment or cluster initiatives.
  • Attend executive meetings to contribute to the tactical priorities of the business. Provide follow up as needed ensuring all cluster requirements are completed.
  • Facilitate shared understanding of cluster strategy & priorities across key stakeholders and enabling functions.
  • Drive development and production of appropriate leadership OKRs.

Governance:

  • Cluster strategy delivery – work closely with global and cluster senior executives to execute strategic initiatives in line with, or to exceed, the annual plan.
  • Act as representative / proxy for the cluster head at necessary meetings/ committees.
  • Act as the cluster head's deputy in providing input into cluster/globally enhancing transversal initiatives.

Communication:

  • Create, manage and provide appropriate preparation material for all cluster head internal & external speaking engagements, including personal briefing notes.
  • Act as focal point for cluster sponsorship (internal/external) events.
  • Partner with the cluster leadership team to identify and drive a cluster employee engagement agenda.
  • Serve as key member of the cluster leadership team; build strong relationships across the cluster leadership team and their leadership teams to drive an array of strategy execution efforts.

Managerial

  • Demonstrate the 'Risk Excellence' culture by establishing the tone at the top, through personal accountability and ownership, education and awareness and reinforcing mechanisms.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of:
    • The scope of the role's managerial responsibilities; and
    • The competence of the staff reporting to the role.
  • Ensure that the team report/s have clear understanding of their reporting lines, authority levels, scope of responsibilities (including those delegated to them and those they delegate), objectives, training and competency requirements, that progress is reviewed regularly in line with Company policy, and that staff are regulatory registered where appropriate for their role.
  • Establish and nurture a culture of individual ownership of tasks to embed a clear individual sense of accountability into staff members' behaviour in performing their roles.
  • Ensure that the highest level of the Code of Conduct is displayed in your own and staff behaviour.
  • Establish and monitor systems of control, delegated authority and escalation procedures so that the business complies with internal policies and external regulations can be managed effectively.
  • Adhere to the delegation and oversight (management information and escalation) framework in the performance of daily tasks. This includes taking proactive action to ensure there is adequate production of management information that is fits for purpose, and issues are raised as appropriate.
  • Establish and monitor an effective delegation framework to ensure that tasks are performed by staff members with appropriate capacity and authority level (based on knowledge, skills and competence).

Escalation

  • Establish and monitor an effective oversight framework to ensure that issues are appropriately identified, escalated and resolved. This includes: ensuring that appropriate management information is received, considered and challenged as appropriate at intervals proportionate to the risks; and that staff members have clear understanding of the escalation path/principles.

  • The individual will have a high level of integrity and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Experience as a CoS will be highly preferred
