This role is an Actuarial leadership team position, responsible for ensuring the calculation of reserves/technical provisions for specific lines of business within the AXA XL division (called "regional lobs"), and for the UK & Lloyd's Region including the two legal entities AXUAL and AXICL in accordance with the AXA XL division actuarial requirements, applicable regulatory requirements and accounting standards. The position also involves advising Risk Management on capital requirements and contributing to the Annual Actuarial function report wording.

You will be a member of the Actuarial Function Reporting (AFR team) which is an AXA XL division team in charge of reserving for the AXA XL entity under the responsibility of the Global Chief Actuary, AXA XL. You will also be a member of the UK regional Leadership Team and Executive Committee.

You will report directly to the Global Chief Actuary, with a dotted reporting line to the CEO, UK & Lloyd's region.

Your key objectives are:

1. Reserving for specific lines of business (called "regional lobs") for the AXA XL Division

2. Overall management, presentation and communication of the UK&Lloyd's region of the AXA XL division for all lines of business

3. Leading Actuarial Function for legal entities AXUAL and AXICL

4. Contributing to the strategy and execution of business plan

Essential responsibilities include:

• Oversight of reserves assessment & management of Business teams for the "regional lobs"

• Ensuring region reserving results are aligned with the division view

• Management of key relationships with Business Leaders for "regional lobs" to provide understanding of profitability to support key business decisions;

• Overseeing potential independent external review of reserves for "regional lobs"

• Review and approve calculation of technical provisions; Inform the Board of the adequacy of technical provisions

• Prepare opinion on overall underwriting policy, including recommendation on Business plan for Board Approval and consideration of Pricing Policy, Governance and Management Information.

• Prepare opinion on adequacy of reinsurance arrangements to consider cost benefit and outcomes under stress scenarios to assess how the program supports the Risk Appetite of the entities.

• Contribute to effective risk management system, provide opinion to the Board on range of risks & adequacy of the scenarios considered as part of the ORSA

• Management of Reserves Function contribution to the Division Business Planning process through establishing clear view of current and projected profitability for the "regional lobs" and for the Region.

• Involvement in the technical assumptions taken at the division and at the region levels

• Oversight of Legal Entity Business Plans to ensure regulatory plans are a best estimate representation of the business expected to be written.

• Developing relationships with the Board and Executive Management

• Reporting of reserving and loss ratio development to the Board Risk & Reserve Committee for XLCICL and CUAL

• Chair of XLCICL and CUAL Executive Reserve Committee

• Contributing Member of Executive Committee, Underwriting Committee, Risk Management Committee

• Providing leadership to the team, identifying and developing talent

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Management : Capability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines across a large team to ensure timely and effective delivery and can navigate ambiguity effectively.

Business Knowledge:

o A clear understanding of the firms' business model

o Appropriate knowledge of the characteristics and risks associated with the lines of business

o Market Knowledge: Knowledge of trends and practices within the insurance industry

o Ability to translate actuarial outcomes into business orientated messages

Regulatory Knowledge:

o Knowledge of all regulatory requirements and demands to ensure that they are efficiently achieved.

o Knowledge of the Solvency II regulatory regime, including risk knowledge to include: insurance risk (underwriting, reserving and catastrophe risk), market risk and operational risk, based upon understanding of insurance industry practices and processes.

o Experience of risk capital and liability (claims cost reserving/provisioning) assessments, and the internal models that the firm has developed to determine economic and regulatory capital requirements.

o Fully aware of the personal requirements as set out in the regulatory Approved Persons responsibilities as prescribed by the FCA/PRA

Strong Communication : Excellent communication, collaboration and presentation skills

One AXA Mindset : Expected to ensure consistency between the division, the region and the legal actuarial views and is comfortable to challenge and be challenged.

Strategic Thinking and Tactical Implementation : Ability to invent, design and build solutions.

Extensive managerial / executive experience within the non-life insurance industry, with a significant focus on reserving.
