Amazon's Risk and Compliance Solutions (RCS) division is on the lookout for a seasoned Chief Compliance Executive to spearhead efforts in overseeing Amazon's regulated payment and lending operations within the UK.
The ideal candidate will possess a solid history of establishing and enhancing compliance frameworks specifically within the payments and merchant lending sectors in the UK. This includes substantial direct engagement with supervisory authorities such as the FCA.
The Chief Compliance Executive will collaborate closely with the UK Head of Compliance to develop and uphold a robust, effective, and risk-sensitive regulatory and financial crime compliance framework across Amazon Payments UK and Amazon Capital Service Limited.
This role encompasses the ownership and maintenance of all compliance policies pertinent to these entities, particularly in relation to mitigating financial crime risks and ensuring positive outcomes in accordance with regulatory standards.
Additionally, the successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).
Key Responsibilities
- Direct a team of regulatory and financial crime experts to ensure Amazon adheres to all regulatory obligations and internal standards regarding Regulatory Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Terrorism Financing, Criminal Financing, and Fraud.
- Cultivate strategic and effective relationships with partner teams across Amazon (Tech, Ops, Product, Business) and keep them informed of significant compliance issues that require their attention or action. Proactively assist business teams in preparing for shifts in the compliance and regulatory landscape.
- Generate pertinent MLRO reports and monthly management updates on financial crime, while advising on ongoing relevant developments both internally and externally (e.g., new products, risks, regulations, etc.).
- Provide thought leadership and executive scrutiny on financial crime prevention, serving as the primary contact for risk assessments related to the entities, new products, or existing products undergoing significant changes.
- Implement and refine compliance oversight mechanisms and metrics for regulatory and financial crime risks and controls.
- Offer guidance on policy interpretations and collaborate with the business to address breaches and violations of such policies, facilitating external reporting when necessary.
- Oversee and conduct ongoing training initiatives and manage all required regulatory reporting.
- Comprehensive understanding of the current payments and lending regulatory landscape and expectations, including relevant regulations and legislation.
- Extensive experience in second line compliance concerning Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Terrorism Financing, Economic Sanctions, and Fraud Risk Management, acquired within a financial institution.
- Familiarity with conducting financial crime and compliance risk assessments in accordance with associated regulatory requirements and guidance.
- Significant people management experience, with a focus on building high-performing teams that achieve results.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to simplify complex issues for both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management and executives.
- Proven ability to challenge the status quo and drive results in ambiguous and fast-paced environments.
- Capacity to work independently, exercise sound judgment, problem-solve, and continuously adjust priorities with minimal supervision.
- Experience collaborating with international teams across various time zones.
- Background in payments or e-commerce compliance.
- Professional certifications such as ICA, CISI, CAMS, or CRCM.
