Overview

The purpose of the role is to lead and manage the project management team (consisting of senior project managers, project managers, and project coordinators) while ensuring the successful delivery of all projects within the department. The Head of Projects will work closely with the project team to manage the execution, prioritisation, and planning of project schedules and budgets to meet and exceed customer expectations, ensuring adequate staff allocation. The projects are varied and require a combination of project management techniques and knowledge, commercial acumen, and a thorough understanding of customer contracts. The Head of Projects will also be responsible for the risk management process and the contract lines invoicing schedule

Duties will include:


  • Leading by example, promoting strong customer focus and positive behaviors through positive interactions
  • Negotiate and influence effectively to ensure the success of the team and project
  • Thorough communication to support individuals and team achievements by setting expectations, detailing objectives, regular performance reviews and annual appraisals.
  • Work with individuals to create personal development plans, ensuring where appropriate that they are all working towards a professional recognised project management qualification
  • Ensure that all contracts are operating to at least a neutral cash flow.
  • Liaise closely with department heads to ensure that recommendations and targets are being achieved.
  • Ensure that the project team set up regular progress meetings and that minutes of meetings are issued with actions and dates recorded.
  • Co-ordinate and chair monthly contract review meetings and ensure that pre-meeting the financial forecasts are completed and distributed.
  • Attend the monthly sales and operational planning meeting. This will entail update for review at the meeting of the contracts milestone payments schedule, to raise issues that are affecting contract performance and to provide an update on the department direct hours versus the budget.
  • Involvement in bid projects regarding to incorporate lessons learned, and support budgets for project management efforts, agreeing schedules and work breakdown structures, project budgets, and risk and opportunities. Ensure a smooth transition between the bid and execution phases.
  • Receive/Accept new contracts from the Bids and Proposals team through Gate 06 process.
  • Provide monthly report to Director for review and inclusion within the monthly board report.

  • Be able to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high pressure environment

  • Good team leader with highly effective man management skills
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Experience working with overseas customers and markets
