Role Overview

As a vital member of our crew, the Technical Rating will report directly to the Master and play a crucial role in the upkeep and repair of all machinery and electrical systems aboard the vessel. This position also encompasses the responsibilities of a GP Rating. For further details about our operations, please refer to Marine Services - SMIT Neyland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acquire comprehensive knowledge of the vessel's design, machinery, and operational features.
  • Perform necessary inspections prior to departure on sea voyages, ensuring the vessel is fully prepared, considering factors such as stability, stress, trim, and watertight integrity, while confirming adequate fuel reserves.
  • Notify the Master and Maintenance Superintendent of any identified issues.
  • Conduct routine assessments of machinery and engine spaces to maintain awareness of equipment condition and functionality.
  • Coordinate all transfers of fuel, lubricants, and fresh water.
  • Ensure that all scheduled maintenance and both routine and emergency repairs are executed effectively.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Superintendent to plan work that minimizes disruption to the vessel's operations while maximizing reliability and availability.
  • Implement measures to prevent environmental pollution.
  • Maintain accurate engine room records as mandated by the Company and relevant authorities.
  • Provide thorough handovers when joining or leaving the vessel.
  • Stay informed about Company and Shipboard regulations to perform duties safely and efficiently.
  • Be knowledgeable about all safety equipment onboard and actively participate in safety drills and training to uphold the highest operational standards.
  • Fulfill additional duties as reasonably assigned by the Master.
  • Execute the responsibilities of GP Rating and RIB Coxswain.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Mandatory:

  • ENG 1 certification.
  • Completion of Sea Survival Course.
  • Basic Fire Fighting training.

Preferred:

  • ATV AEC 1 & 2 certifications.
  • RSC AEC 1 certification.
  • Understanding of the technical operations of designated equipment.
  • Basic operational process knowledge.
  • Proficient command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Familiarity with Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
  • Basic ICT skills, including Office and fleet management systems.
  • Formal qualification in a relevant engineering field.
  • Elementary First Aid certification.
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 certification.
  • Completion of mandatory NINA training.

Other Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years residency in the UK.
  • Possession of a valid driving license.
  • Current passport.
