About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Specialist to join our team at Boskalis. As a Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment onboard our vessels, as well as carrying out the duties of a GP Rating.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To be familiar with the details of our vessels' construction, machinery, and operating characteristics.
  • To undertake relevant checks before departure on a sea passage, ensuring that the vessel is in all respects prepared for the voyage, taking into account factors such as stability, stress, trim, and watertight integrity.
  • To report any deficiencies to the Master and Maintenance Superintendent.
  • To conduct regular inspections of machinery and machinery spaces to maintain awareness of the condition and operational capability of all equipment at all times.
  • To arrange all transfers of fuel, lube oil, and fresh water.
  • To ensure that all planned maintenance and both normal and emergency repair work is carried out.
  • In conjunction with the Maintenance Superintendent, to ensure that all work is planned for minimum disruption to the vessel's overall programme and maximum reliability and availability of the plant.
  • To ensure that all measures to prevent pollution of the environment are exercised.
  • To keep all engine room records as required by the Company and other authorities, and to ensure that they are completed neatly and accurately.
  • To give/receive an appropriate and detailed handover when joining/leaving the Company vessel.
  • To be fully conversant with Company and Shipboard regulations and policies in order to carry out efficient and safe functions.
  • To be familiar with all safety equipment onboard and to participate in safety drills and training to ensure the highest operation standard of the vessel at all times.
  • To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Master.
  • To carry out the duties of a GP Rating and RIB Coxswain.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • ENG 1 certification.
  • Sea Survival Course completion.
  • Basic Fire Fighting training.
  • Knowledge of the technical operation of the installations of designated equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of operational processes.
  • Good command of English (written and spoken).
  • Knowledge of the applicable Occupational Health & Safety rules.
  • Basic skills in ICT Office and fleet management systems.
  • Formal Qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Elementary First Aid training.
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 certification.
  • Mandatory NINA training.

Other Essential Requirements:

  • 3 years UK residency.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Current passport.
