Key Responsibilities

As a Marine Technical Specialist, you will report directly to the Master and play a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation and upkeep of all machinery and electrical systems aboard the vessel. Your expertise will also extend to fulfilling the duties of a GP Rating.

Your Core Duties Include:

  • Understanding the vessel's structural design, machinery, and operational features.
  • Conducting necessary inspections prior to any sea voyage to confirm the vessel's readiness, considering factors such as stability, stress, trim, and watertight integrity, as well as ensuring adequate fuel reserves.
  • Communicating any identified issues to the Master and Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Performing routine checks of machinery and engine spaces to stay informed about the condition and functionality of all equipment.
  • Coordinating the transfer of fuel, lubricants, and fresh water.
  • Ensuring that all scheduled maintenance and both routine and emergency repairs are executed efficiently.
  • Collaborating with the Maintenance Superintendent to plan work that minimizes disruption to the vessel's schedule while maximizing the reliability and availability of equipment.
  • Implementing measures to prevent environmental pollution.
  • Maintaining accurate engine room logs as required by company policies and regulatory authorities.
  • Providing and receiving thorough handovers when joining or leaving the vessel.
  • Being well-versed in company and shipboard regulations to perform tasks safely and effectively.
  • Familiarizing yourself with all safety equipment onboard and participating in safety drills and training to uphold the highest operational standards.
  • Executing additional tasks as reasonably assigned by the Master.
  • Carrying out the responsibilities of a GP Rating and RIB Coxswain.
Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • ENG 1 certification.
  • Completion of a Sea Survival Course.
  • Basic Fire Fighting training.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • For ATV AEC 1 & 2 certifications.
  • For RSC AEC 1 certification.
  • Familiarity with the technical operations of designated equipment.
  • Basic understanding of operational processes.
  • Proficient command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of relevant Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
  • Basic ICT skills, including office and fleet management systems.
  • Formal qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Elementary First Aid certification.
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 certification.
  • Mandatory NINA training.

Other Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years residency in the UK.
  • Possession of a full driving license.
  • Valid passport.
