Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Operations Manager, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the Trust's bed capacity and patient flow.
  • Assisting in achieving key performance and quality standards, including emergency and elective admission access targets.
  • Ensuring compliance with infection control protocols and supporting safe staffing levels.
  • Taking overall responsibility for the hospital site during out-of-hours periods, with support from senior management.

In collaboration with the Clinical Operations team, you will ensure effective site management, including direct oversight of the four-hour access target for Emergency departments and the strategic direction of bed utilization across the Trust.

This role requires a commitment to a 24/7 operational model, working in shifts to ensure continuous service delivery.

About Our Organization

The Capacity Team is dedicated to maintaining safe and effective patient flow throughout the Trust at all times. This team comprises Clinical Operations Managers, Hospital @ Night staff, and personnel focused on facilitating timely patient discharges.

Person Specification

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Specialist Clinical Qualification (e.g., ITU, A&E) at degree/diploma level or higher.

Desirable

  • Recognized Management Qualification (e.g., BTEC, CMI) or significant experience in a management role.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Post-registration experience with extensive background at Band 6 or above in the acute care sector.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Managerial skills and knowledge.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing daily operational issues.
  • Proficiency in communication strategies and handling challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of POVA, DOLS, and MCA.
  • Awareness of national and local issues affecting Nursing and the NHS, along with up-to-date knowledge of relevant nursing policies and practices.

Desirable

  • Leadership experience, including completion of a leadership program.
  • Experience in a mentoring or preceptor role.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong documentation, report writing, and record-keeping skills.
