Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged to become a vital member of the research team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, collaborating to advance both national and international research initiatives.

This role, classified as Band 6, requires engagement with the team to implement clinical trials for our patient population, offering them the chance to partake in the development of innovative treatments and interventions.

No two days will be identical as you navigate through various trials, patient follow-ups, screening, and recruitment, all while guiding participants through their research experience.

A significant aspect of this position will involve supporting the TRIOMIC colorectal study, which focuses on a groundbreaking diagnostic device.

The ideal candidate will possess recent experience in Clinical Research or demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for research. Flexibility, a strong work ethic, and the capability to manage workloads effectively amidst tight deadlines and competing priorities are essential.

Visits to the department are highly encouraged prior to the selection process.

Main Responsibilities

The primary focus of this role will be to assist in the recruitment and follow-up of patients participating in both academic and industry-sponsored studies.

The responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying, screening, consenting, and recruiting patients for various national clinical studies.
  • Conducting follow-ups with participants and managing data entry onto spreadsheets and data collection forms.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day execution of clinical protocols for both non-interventional and complex interventional studies.

Some cross-site collaboration may be required.

About the Team

You will report to the Band 7 Team Lead Research Sister while collaborating closely with Consultants, Registrars, and the broader multidisciplinary team. Additionally, you will work alongside the Research and Innovation Team to advocate for the significance of clinical research within the Trust.

Participation in local Clinical Research Network meetings and Investigator meetings will be expected, and training will be provided to support your role.

Engaging clinical staff to facilitate recruitment into both straightforward and more intricate clinical studies will be a key component of your responsibilities, often in high-pressure situations and at short notice.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse/AHP
  • Significant post-registration clinical experience in a relevant area
  • Evidence of ongoing personal, professional, and academic development

Desirable:

  • Accredited NIHR GCP training
  • Demonstrated enhanced communication skills
  • Awareness of ongoing research at the Trust

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong motivation to engage in research
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team, as well as within the wider multidisciplinary team
