Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity is available to become a vital member of the research team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, collaborating to advance both national and international research initiatives.
This role, classified as Band 6, requires engagement with the team to implement clinical trials for our patient population, providing them with the chance to contribute to the development of innovative treatments and interventions.
Each day presents unique challenges as you manage new trials, follow-ups, patient screening, and recruitment, while guiding participants through their research experience.
A significant aspect of this position involves supporting the TRIOMIC colorectal study, which focuses on a groundbreaking diagnostic device.
The ideal candidate will possess recent experience in Clinical Research or demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for research. Flexibility, a strong work ethic, and effective workload management skills are essential to navigate tight deadlines and competing priorities.
Visits to the department are encouraged prior to the selection process.
Your primary work location will be within The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust facilities.
Main Responsibilities
The primary focus of this role is to assist in the recruitment and follow-up of patients participating in various studies, both academic and industry-sponsored.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying, screening, consenting, and recruiting patients for numerous national clinical studies.
- Conducting follow-ups and managing data entry on spreadsheets and data collection forms.
- Assuming overall responsibility for the daily execution of clinical protocols in both non-interventional and complex interventional studies.
Some cross-site collaboration may be required.
About the Team
You will report to the Band 7 Team Lead Research Sister while collaborating closely with Consultants, Registrars, and the broader multidisciplinary team. Additionally, you will partner with the Research and Innovation Team to advocate for the significance of clinical research within the Trust.
Participation in local Clinical Research Network meetings and Investigator meetings is expected, and training will be provided to support your role.
Engaging clinical staff to facilitate recruitment into both straightforward and more intricate clinical studies, often in high-pressure situations and at short notice, will be a crucial part of your responsibilities.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
- Registered Nurse/AHP
- Significant post-registration clinical experience in a relevant area
- Evidence of ongoing personal, professional, and academic development
Desirable:
- Accredited NIHR GCP training
- Demonstrated advanced communication skills
- Familiarity with research activities at the Trust
Skills & Abilities

- Strong motivation to engage in research
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team, as well as the wider multidisciplinary team
