About the Role

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our esteemed team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional clinical care to patients with gastrointestinal complaints.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality patient care, working independently and collaboratively with consultant staff.
  • Participate in the gastroenterology on-call rota, ensuring seamless coverage and patient safety.
  • Develop and implement enhanced clinical skills, particularly in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
  • Contribute to the audit and governance processes, supporting the training of junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in administrative duties, ensuring efficient clinical operations and effective communication with colleagues.
  • Participate in the Upper GI/Hepatobiliary Cancer Multidisciplinary Team, driving collaborative care and improving patient outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain excellent team-working skills, fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Meet clinical and quality targets, aligning with national and local priorities.
  • Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways, ensuring continuity of care.

Job Plan and Expectations

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, outlining the consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. The job plan will be reviewed annually and will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external, including personal objectives aligned with wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MBBS, MB ChB, or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCP or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

  • PhD, MD, or evidence of higher education qualification.

Entry Criteria

  • Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
