Bonnier Books UK has a vacancy for a talented and extremely organised managing editor to join its team, publishing books for children of all ages and abilities across a broad range of imprints, formats and genres. We are looking for an experienced team player, with exceptional project management and organisational skills, and impeccable attention to detail.

In this role, you will work extensively cross-departmentally and with external partners to coordinate all stages of the production for our books. You will support editors and designers with publishing books of the highest quality, on time and to budget. You will be responsible for identifying ways to improve existing processes and systems to support the growth of the imprint and list. You will also be accountable for managing and overseeing various group resources including the administration assistant and assistant editor and supporting them in their duties.

Key responsibilities

Work with the managing director to define the constituents of the combined children's publishing programme by number of titles, genre and format (across imprints) and monitor the programmes to ensure these numbers are adhered to.Reviewing the paperback, co-edition and pre-school programmes to ensure optimal profitability.Manage the provision of sales materials for book fairs, including creating frontlist and backlist catalogues, supporting the creation of the rights guide and updating the Bonnier Pages.Ensure that schedules and timelines are adhered to and that material is produced for international and UK markets sell in.Communicate directly with imprint teams regarding book schedules and provide guidance throughout the creative process where needed.Develop and maintain our online customer sales platform (Bookshelf) to ensure it is updated and is being utilised to its maximum potential.Work with the administration assistant and publishing directors to ensure that Biblio is up to date for budgeting and re-forecasts in a timely manner.Oversee the maintenance of freelance contracts.Continuously look for ways to streamline processes, improve templates, gain efficiencies, and address systemic issues. Knowledge, skills and experienceProven experience as a managing editor or in a similar project management role.Impeccable attention to detail.Excellent organisation skills, and the ability to prioritise a busy workload on tight deadlines.A track record of putting in place and improving systems and processes.Excellent communication skills, and the ability to forge strong relationships with our internal teams and freelancers alike.Background in book publishing is not required for this role but you'll need to have demonstrable project management experience.
