We are currently seeking a dedicated Children's Book Acquisition Editor to leverage their commercial insight and editorial innovation in acquiring titles for our esteemed Wide Eyed Editions. The ideal candidate will possess a solid track record in commissioning books for an international readership and will be eager to introduce fresh ideas while achieving the division's commercial goals.

Contract Type: Fixed-term maternity cover

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Working Hours:

Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We embrace a flexible hybrid working model, allowing for a combination of office and remote work.

Role Overview:

As the Children's Book Acquisition Editor, you will play a pivotal role in sourcing and refining leading children's non-fiction titles that captivate and educate young audiences.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Identifying and acquiring new titles for the Wide Eyed portfolio, including evaluating external submissions and negotiating agreements with authors and agents.
  • Managing the lifecycle of active titles, from acquisition through to publication.
  • Providing leadership to the Senior Editor, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high-quality output.
  • Collaborating with authors, agents, and various internal teams including sales, marketing, design, and production.
  • Contributing to overall team management and dynamics.
  • Assisting in the preparation for and participation in industry events as necessary.

Candidate Profile:

The successful applicant will have a minimum of three years' experience in editing and managing children's literature, with a proven ability to commission commercially viable non-fiction titles.

You Should Be Able To:

  • Guide exceptional books from initial concept to final publication.
  • Commission successful children's non-fiction works.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects within set timelines and budgets.
  • Stay informed about trends in the children's non-fiction publishing sector.
  • Support the Senior Editor in managing their workload and professional development.
  • Demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external authors and agents.
  • Utilize InDesign proficiently.
