About the Role

Bloomsbury Publishing Plc is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Editor to join our team in the role of Editor, Children's Education. As a key member of our publishing team, you will be responsible for managing a diverse range of educational titles from concept to classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Work closely with the commissioning team and senior editors to manage individual book projects across a broad range of educational products, including teaching resources, professional development books, children's fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.
  • Editorial Process: Guide individual titles through the editorial process, from commission to publication, working with authors to ensure timely delivery of manuscripts and liaising with production staff to maintain publishing schedules and data in our publishing database.
  • Financial Management: Manage the editorial budget for individual titles to ensure profitability.
  • Marketing Support: Organise and assist with the writing of AIs, catalogue copy, and book fair materials.
  • Development and Copy Editing: Develop and copy edit new manuscripts independently, as well as alongside project editors/commissioning editors.
  • Cover and Artwork Briefs: Write cover and artwork briefs and compile back cover copy.
  • Proofreading and Liaising: Proofread and liaise with authors at proof stage, collate comments and corrections, feed back to production, and then check off changes on revised proofs.
  • Design Liaison: Liaise with external and internal designers on page layouts, covers, and artwork briefs, including storyboarding and illustrator selection.
  • Sales and Marketing Support: Present titles to sales and marketing teams at launch and review meetings.
  • Representative Role: Represent the education list at sales conferences and events, as required.
Requirements
  • Organisational Skills: Organised, confident, and a good communicator.
  • Language Skills: Excellent knowledge of the English language, high standards of accuracy, and a keen eye for detail.
  • Time Management: Strong organisational skills and a rigorous, self-motivated approach to briefing, meeting deadlines, and managing schedules and budgets.
  • Prioritisation: Able to prioritise and manage time effectively.
  • Awareness of Print Procedures: Awareness of print procedures and printing needs.
  • Cost Awareness: Awareness of cost limitations and profitability of a project.
  • Education Publishing Experience: Demonstrable experience of education publishing essential.
Working Arrangements

The role is based at our London office on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office-based/3 days home-based (or fully office-based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday.
