Job Overview

This role encompasses various newsgathering responsibilities within the ITN news and planning departments. The selected candidate will provide assistance to our News Editors and planning team across both television and digital platforms, focusing on securing content and guests while effectively managing resources. The ideal applicant will be proactive in identifying story elements, possess a strong understanding of the ITN news agenda, and demonstrate the enthusiasm necessary to produce engaging programs. Acknowledging the significance of social media, the candidate will collaborate with correspondents to enhance our online presence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support News Editors, Planning Editor, and Deputy News Editor as needed.
  • Manage incoming calls at the news desk, addressing inquiries and prioritizing information.
  • Pursue, schedule, and communicate with potential guests or contributors, negotiating fees within budget constraints.
  • Convey information clearly and concisely.
  • Coordinate the assignment and briefing of newsgathering personnel.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between the news desk and field teams.
  • Engage with public relations representatives to secure high-profile guests.
  • Log visual content as required.
  • Maintain awareness of copyright and access regulations, as well as ITN compliance standards.
  • Research, locate, and negotiate the acquisition of still images and video content within budget.
  • Source and secure video and other materials from social media for television and digital use.
  • Address inquiries and facilitate special projects.
  • Identify and research stories, securing filming opportunities.
  • Ensure collaboration with ITV News and Channel 4 News desks and ITN Productions to maintain comprehensive coverage and avoid assignment duplications.
  • Identify and create opportunities for digital content, collaborating with the news desk, planning team, and Digital Editor to execute them.
  • Recognize the importance of accurate and timely logging of materials, adhering strictly to ITN policies on clip coding.
  • Coordinate with the rostering team regarding the availability of newsgathering staff.
  • Occasionally assume the responsibilities of Deputy News Editor.

  • Previous experience in a newsroom setting is preferred.
