About the Role...

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals? The Renewal Programme, a well-established and respected local charity in the London Borough of Newham, is seeking a dedicated Housing Support Worker to join our team on a full-time basis.

You will play a crucial role in providing effective and high-quality support and resettlement services to vulnerable single homeless adults housed by the charity. Support workers are vital members of our team as they provide support to tenants, helping them to develop the life-skills they require to move on to independent living. In this role you will manage a caseload of tenants, supporting and encouraging them to maximise their skills and choices.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting interviews and assessing the suitability of prospective tenants.
  • Inducting new tenants into their local community and ensuring their understanding of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Developing and reviewing support plans with tenants and coordinating with other professionals involved in their care.
  • Holding keywork sessions with designated tenants and conducting regular risk assessments.
  • Providing information, advice, and advocacy on welfare benefits, education, budgeting, and independent living skills.
  • Liaising with external support service providers and fostering connections with community groups.
  • Recommending permanent housing options and providing support and advice to successfully moved-on tenants.
  • Upholding health and safety standards and maintaining positive relationships with the local neighbourhood.

    About You...

You will play a crucial part in providing a safe and supportive environment for residents, many of who are formerly street homeless. As a natural communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, you will possess a supportive and non-judgmental approach.

Your ability to work within policies, procedures, and regulations is essential to maintain a safe and effective environment.

If you are ready to contribute to empowering vulnerable individuals and making a positive impact on their lives, we invite you to apply. Your dedication and commitment will play a vital role in helping our residents transition towards a more independent lifestyle.

    Requirements:
    • Experience of face-to-face support work with vulnerable individuals.
    • Practical experience in assessment, key-working, and advocacy.
    • Knowledge of housing management, support planning, and relevant statutory services.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and maintain accurate records.
