Role Overview

The position is situated within our Modern Slavery Response Team, which assists potential survivors identified through the National Referral Mechanism. We provide comprehensive emotional and practical support to thousands of survivors, working collaboratively with key stakeholders and local partners to enhance outcomes for our clients. The Service Manager is tasked with overseeing and mentoring high-performing teams to ensure the delivery of exceptional services while maintaining strong compliance with contractual and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

As a Housing Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in our Modern Slavery Response Service, directly influencing the lives of those we serve. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading specialized support initiatives for individuals facing homelessness and providing guidance to advocates assisting clients at risk of homelessness.
  • Identifying and promoting best practices within the service to effectively prevent and address homelessness.
  • Offering expert advice to advocates managing complex housing situations.
  • Reviewing housing applications and referrals, providing tailored support and guidance on a case-by-case basis.
  • Conducting clinics to advise on housing matters and homelessness prevention strategies.
  • Sharing expertise on housing and homelessness legislation, particularly concerning private rental and local authority housing.
  • Staying informed about updates to the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
  • Monitoring compliance with safehouse guidelines and regulations.
  • Supporting service users in alternative accommodations due to homelessness.
  • Facilitating discussions on themes and trends affecting homelessness during team meetings.

Qualifications and Skills

We seek candidates who possess a blend of passion, expertise, and commitment. To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with housing and homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act.
  • Experience in advocacy and mediation related to complex housing challenges.
  • Familiarity with welfare benefits legislation and health and safety regulations.
  • Understanding of the underlying causes of homelessness and the ability to develop interventions.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach to achieving high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with clients and team members.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and a commitment to managing complex projects effectively.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and maintaining accurate records.
