Role Overview
The successful candidate will be part of our dedicated team focused on assisting individuals at risk of homelessness. This role is pivotal in delivering specialized support and guidance to advocates who assist service users facing housing instability. The position requires extensive knowledge of housing laws and a proven track record in addressing housing-related challenges.
Key Responsibilities
As a Housing Support Specialist, your daily activities will include:
- Leading efforts to provide specialized assistance to advocates working with individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
- Identifying and promoting best practices within the service to effectively prevent and address homelessness.
- Offering expert support to advocates managing complex housing situations.
- Evaluating housing applications and referrals, providing tailored advice and assistance.
- Conducting advisory clinics to address housing concerns and homelessness prevention strategies.
- Sharing insights on housing legislation and regulations relevant to various housing options.
- Staying informed about updates to the Homelessness code of guidance.
- Monitoring compliance with safehouse guidelines and regulations.
- Supporting service users in alternative accommodations due to homelessness.
- Facilitating discussions on themes and trends affecting homelessness during team meetings.
Qualifications and Skills
To thrive in this role, candidates should possess:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in housing and homelessness legislation.
- Experience in advocacy and mediation concerning complex housing issues.
- Understanding of welfare benefits legislation and its implications.
- Ability to create effective interventions addressing the root causes of homelessness.
- Proactive and solution-oriented approach to client work.
