Service Overview

The Modern Slavery Response Team at Hestia collaborates with potential survivors identified through the National Referral Mechanism. We provide essential emotional and practical support to thousands of survivors, ensuring they have access to the necessary services for recovery and reintegration. The Service Manager oversees high-performing teams to deliver exceptional services while maintaining compliance with contractual and organizational standards.

Role Purpose

The primary aim of the Homelessness Prevention Specialist is to deliver high-quality, specialized support and guidance to advocates assisting service users who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of housing legislation and a proven track record in addressing housing-related challenges. You will provide tailored support to advocates, liaising with local authorities and other stakeholders in the homelessness sector.

Key Responsibilities

As a Homelessness Prevention Specialist, your role will be vital in our Modern Slavery Response Service. Your efforts will directly impact the lives of service users, guiding them towards empowerment and self-sufficiency. Daily responsibilities may include:

  • Leading specialized support initiatives for service users facing homelessness and destitution.
  • Identifying and promoting best practices within the service to prevent and resolve homelessness.
  • Assisting advocates with complex housing cases.
  • Reviewing housing applications and providing tailored advice on a case-by-case basis.
  • Conducting housing advice clinics during office hours.
  • Sharing expertise on housing and homelessness legislation, including private rented housing and local authority housing.
  • Staying informed about updates to the Homelessness code of guidance.
  • Ensuring compliance with safehouse guidelines and regulations.
  • Overseeing service users in alternative accommodations due to homelessness.
  • Supporting advocates in managing challenging housing cases and sharing effective practices.
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to service policy and strategic planning.
  • Creating and regularly updating resources related to housing support.
  • Facilitating workshops on housing legislation for advocates.
  • Engaging actively in the housing champions group.
  • Leading discussions on homelessness trends and themes during team meetings.
