About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Support Specialist to join our team at Hestia Housing Support. As a Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to our service users with complex mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of service users with diverse health and support needs, working closely with their carers to promote their health and wellbeing.
  • Support service users to maintain their independence, identify their strengths, and achieve their goals and aspirations, in partnership with our subcontractors as required.
  • Provide day-to-day care and support to service users, in line with their care and support plans.
  • Assist service users to attend educational, leisure, and health-related activities, accompanying them as necessary.
  • Assist with the administration of medication, supporting service users to transition towards managing their own medication where possible.
  • Monitor the health, wellbeing, safety, and security of the service and its users, reporting any concerns and following up promptly in line with Hestia procedures.
  • Carry out domestic tasks, including cooking and cleaning, when appropriate.
Requirements
  • Good knowledge of mental health issues, including signs, symptoms, and treatments.
  • Ability to assess service users' declining mental health and take appropriate action.
  • Basic awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Willingness to cook and clean with service users and assist with personal care.
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours, including weekends, evenings, and sleep-ins, within a rota system.
  • Ability to motivate and support service users towards their goals, maximizing their independence.
  • Willingness to travel and work across Hestia services when required.
  • Promote a service user-oriented organization by ensuring all activity aligns with service user needs.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic functions in MS Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to use an I.T.-based Support Planning, Risk Assessment, and Keyworking system.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately.
  • Commitment to working within an Equality and Diversity Framework.
