Service Overview

The Modern Slavery Response Team plays a vital role in assisting potential survivors identified through the National Referral Mechanism. We provide comprehensive emotional and practical support to thousands of survivors, working collaboratively with key stakeholders and local partners to enhance outcomes for our service users. The Service Manager oversees high-performing teams to ensure the delivery of exceptional services while maintaining strong compliance with contractual and organizational standards.

Role Purpose

The primary objective of this position is to deliver high-quality specialized support and guidance to advocates assisting individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of housing legislation and a proven track record in addressing housing-related challenges. You will provide tailored support to advocates by coordinating with local authorities and other stakeholders in the homelessness sector. Additionally, you will serve as a key contact for advocates, conducting housing advice clinics and drop-in sessions to help manage complex housing cases and provide strategic oversight.

Daily Responsibilities

As a Housing Support Specialist at Hestia, your contributions will significantly impact the lives of our service users, guiding them towards empowerment and independence. Your daily tasks may include:

  • Leading specialized initiatives to assist service users facing homelessness and destitution, providing expert support to advocates in accessing emergency housing resources.
  • Identifying and promoting best practices within the service to effectively prevent and resolve homelessness for our clients.
  • Offering guidance to advocates on complex housing cases.
  • Reviewing housing applications and referrals, providing customized support and advice on a case-by-case basis.
  • Conducting clinics during office hours to advise on housing issues and homelessness prevention strategies.
  • Sharing your expertise in housing and homelessness legislation, particularly concerning private rented housing and local authority policies.
  • Staying informed about updates to the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
  • Ensuring compliance with safehouse guidelines and regulations.
  • Overseeing service users in alternative accommodations due to homelessness.
  • Collaborating with advocates on challenging housing cases and disseminating best practices.
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to service policy and strategic planning.
  • Creating and regularly updating resources related to housing support.
  • Facilitating workshops on housing legislation for advocates.
  • Engaging actively in the housing champions group.
  • Leading discussions during team meetings about trends affecting homelessness incidents.
