Service Overview

The Modern Slavery Response Team is dedicated to assisting potential survivors identified through the National Referral Mechanism. We provide essential emotional and practical support to thousands of survivors, facilitating their recovery and reintegration. The Service Manager is tasked with leading and mentoring high-performing teams to ensure the delivery of exceptional services while maintaining compliance with contractual and organizational standards.

Role Purpose

The primary aim of this position is to deliver top-notch specialist support and guidance to advocates assisting service users facing homelessness or at risk of losing their homes. The successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge of housing legislation and a proven track record in addressing housing-related challenges. You will provide tailored assistance to advocates by collaborating with local authorities and other stakeholders in the homelessness sector. Acting as a key resource for advocates, you will conduct housing advice clinics and drop-in sessions to help manage complex housing cases and ensure strategic oversight.

Key Responsibilities

As a Housing Support Specialist at Hestia, your role will be pivotal in our Modern Slavery Response Service. Your efforts will significantly impact the lives of our service users, guiding them toward empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Taking a lead role in supporting service users experiencing homelessness and financial hardship, providing specialized assistance to advocates working with at-risk individuals.
  • Identifying and promoting best practices within the service to effectively prevent and address homelessness.
  • Offering guidance to advocates managing complex housing cases.
  • Reviewing housing applications and referrals, providing tailored support and advice on an individual basis.
  • Conducting clinics during business hours to advise on housing issues and homelessness prevention strategies.
  • Sharing your expertise in housing and homelessness legislation, including private rented housing and local authority housing.
  • Staying informed about updates to the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
  • Maintaining knowledge of safehouse guidelines and regulations.
  • Overseeing service users in alternative accommodations due to homelessness.
  • Providing support to advocates on challenging housing cases and sharing best practices.
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to service policy and strategic planning.
  • Creating and regularly updating resources.
  • Delivering workshops on housing legislation for advocates.
  • Engaging actively in the housing champions group.
  • Leading discussions in team meetings about themes and trends affecting homelessness incidents.
