Operations Manager - Logistics Expert

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team at Gregory Distribution. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of approximately 60 staff members, including drivers and office personnel, to ensure maximum performance and efficiency in our commercial contract operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and motivate the team to achieve commercial contract efficiency, profit, and client service level goals.
  • Own the safety and legal compliance of our transport operations.
  • Ensure customer service exceeds expectations through effective communication and achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Manage commercial operations, including profit and loss accountability, and take necessary actions to achieve targeted profit and commercial aims.
  • Anticipate and manage changes generated by business growth and changing customer requirements.
  • Direct resources to ensure services are delivered in line with contractual customer requirements.
  • Coordinate operations with other depots to ensure consistency and quality of service.
  • Develop and implement processes to exceed customer requirements.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities and take action to protect profit targets.
  • Maximize the use of resources by planning ahead and using assets efficiently.
  • Ensure drivers develop and maintain excellent customer relations.
  • Drive the culture and continued development of direct and indirect staff within the area.
  • Recommend continuous improvements in operational requirements as they affect transport operations.
  • Ensure operation within the limits of LGV legislation in relation to 'O' licence conditions, drivers' hours, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Observe and follow Safe Systems of Work at all times, including maintaining standards of personal hygiene and wearing uniform and PPE.
  • Observe and follow all Company Health & Safety policies and rules, reporting any hazards to your manager immediately.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working within the logistics industry, with exposure to transport and customer management.
  • Previous experience developing strategic and continuous improvement plans.
  • CPC National & / or International qualification.
  • Evidence of developing/leading teams and individuals and a track record of leading successful change.
  • Proven experience in customer relationship management.
  • Strong evidence of management skills and making key business decisions.
  • Strong influencing skills both internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good understanding of legal compliance, driver's hours, and WTDs.
  • IT literate, including MS Office, with strong analytic ability in reviewing data and reports.
  • Previous knowledge of Mandata and other transport management systems is desirable.
