About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Homelessness Prevention Specialist to join our Modern Slavery Response Team at Hestia Charity. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in providing specialist support and guidance to advocates working with service users who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide extensive knowledge and expertise on housing legislation and homelessness prevention strategies to advocates and service users.
  • Develop and implement effective solutions to prevent and solve homelessness for service users, highlighting areas of best practice across the service.
  • Support advocates in dealing with complex housing cases, reviewing housing-related applications and referrals, and offering tailored advice and guidance.
  • Hold regular clinics to advise on housing issues and homelessness prevention, sharing knowledge and understanding of housing and homelessness legislation.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes to the Homelessness Code of Guidance and contractual safehouse guidelines and regulations.
  • Oversee service users in alternative accommodation due to homelessness, providing support and guidance to advocates.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to service policy and strategic planning, creating resources and updating them regularly.
  • Deliver housing-related workshops to advocates, sharing best practice and expertise.
Requirements
  • Proven experience and knowledge of working with housing and homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act and homelessness eviction and tenants' rights.
  • Experience in advocacy and mediation around complex housing issues, with a focus on supporting vulnerable individuals.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with welfare benefits legislation, including welfare reform, and health and safety.
  • Ability to create interventions with service users to address the causes of homelessness.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with team members and the public.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex work projects and own workload.
  • Ability to use computer systems, including databases, as part of daily work.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to record high-quality data, case notes, plans, and outcomes accurately and timely.
