Commercial Operations Manager

Role: Commercial Operations Manager
Location: Flexible working arrangement with a combination of office presence and remote work, including travel to various company locations as necessary.
Security Clearance: Candidates must be eligible and willing to obtain necessary security clearance.
The successful candidate will join the Commercial Operations team, collaborating closely with the Senior Commercial Director to enhance the capabilities and expertise of the broader commercial group. This role involves overseeing a variety of commercial responsibilities, including the review, drafting, and negotiation of various agreements such as primary and subcontractual agreements, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and teaming agreements. Additionally, the role includes leading the commercial governance process for proposals within your scope and ensuring compliance with the company's approval framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a small team of commercial professionals, working alongside the Senior Commercial Director to cultivate their skills in alignment with the evolving needs of the organization.
- Draft and finalize sales and procurement contracts.
- Analyze and negotiate terms and conditions of contracts.
- Review and negotiate NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, and joint ventures.
- Evaluate and approve proposals and contracts, ensuring compliance with company governance standards.
- Provide commercial guidance to bidding teams, assisting in the development of the commercial aspects of tender submissions and influencing initial bid strategies.
- Identify, mitigate, and manage commercial risks.
- Review and authorize call-off contracts across various framework agreements.
- Support commercial activities throughout the contract execution phase.
- Contribute to approval processes and participate in bid and governance meetings.
- Educate non-commercial personnel on commercial and procurement matters.
- Develop and draft commercial guidance documents.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential Qualifications
- A degree in law, business, engineering, science, technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in managing teams.
- Strong understanding of contract law with demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate contract terms.
- Experience in commercial management within sales and/or procurement.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and draft contractual language with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience negotiating contract terms with clients and suppliers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Familiarity with various contractual documents, including NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, and both prime and subcontract agreements.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of intellectual property rights, including licensing and reseller agreements.
- Familiarity with industry and government contracts, particularly in sectors such as aerospace and defense.
- Understanding of UK Export Controls and related regulations.
