Position Overview:

The role involves delivering a comprehensive and high-quality support service aimed at preventing homelessness for individuals and families facing housing crises.

The specialist will conduct thorough assessments for clients approaching the organization, determining the responsibilities of the authority and exploring alternative housing solutions.

A deep understanding of homelessness legislation and relevant case law is essential, along with practical experience in preventing homelessness and making informed statutory decisions.

The role requires the development of specialized knowledge and skills to provide a flexible and responsive housing needs service that adapts to evolving demands and pressures from clients.

Maintaining accurate, accessible, and up-to-date casework and data records is crucial, alongside reporting on performance metrics as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prevent and resolve homelessness within the community by offering confidential and impartial advice to clients seeking assistance regarding their housing rights and obligations under applicable legislation and policies.

- Actively promote and implement the organization's homelessness prevention strategies, identifying suitable housing options and utilizing available prevention tools to address accommodation issues effectively.

- Provide guidance to clients regarding the organization's obligations under relevant housing acts and legislation.

- Conduct comprehensive investigations into the circumstances of clients presenting as homeless, determining the authority's responsibilities in accordance with current legislation and issuing legally sound decision letters.

- Maintain detailed and accurate case notes, update electronic records, manage correspondence, and respond to inquiries to ensure efficient case progression.

Essential Experience:

- A minimum of 3 years of experience in statutory homelessness is required.

- Proven experience in drafting and issuing detailed and legally robust decision letters in compliance with homelessness legislation is essential.

- Familiarity with homelessness prevention initiatives and their practical application is necessary.

- Experience working with relevant legislation and the duties owed to homeless individuals under applicable housing acts is required.

Qualifications:

- A solid standard of general education is essential.

Additional Information:

- Working hours: 35 hours per week.

This position plays a vital role in ensuring that individuals and families receive the support they need to prevent homelessness and secure stable housing solutions.
