The London office is currently on the lookout for a Chief Legal Officer & Risk Advisor. This position will report directly to a Risk and Compliance Lawyer.

All Risk and Compliance Advisors are expected to provide support during a later shift (2pm – 10pm) to accommodate various time zones from Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex conflict queries: conduct conflict searches, analyze reports, propose actions to senior management, and drive issues to resolution.
  • Understand the Firm's strategic objectives to ensure new business intake aligns with global strategies and complies with our existing client base from both legal and commercial perspectives.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Teams across Norton Rose Fulbright Member Firms in Australia, Canada, the USA, and South Africa regarding potential conflicts.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to Risk and Compliance Officers, offering both technical and commercial guidance.
  • Communicate policy updates, training initiatives, and key business information to Risk and Compliance officers.
  • Oversee Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions, and Risk Analysis: ensure adherence to regulations such as AML Directives.
  • Conduct research on companies to evaluate strategic fit, reputational risk, and sanctions exposure for potential clients and matters.
  • Deliver critical analysis of Risk assessments concerning clients and matters, particularly in high-risk jurisdictions.
  • Make recommendations to the Head of Compliance and senior management regarding the acceptance of high-risk clients or matters.
  • Assist Risk and Compliance Officers in resolving intricate conflict issues.
  • Exhibit sound commercial and risk judgment.
  • Possess a minimum of 4 years' experience in a compliance or legal role, with a strong understanding of SRA, AML, bribery, StaRs, sanctions, tax, practice rights, and BHR, applying these regulations pragmatically.
