Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, the Chief Legal Officer will be instrumental in guiding Alter Domus through intricate legal landscapes and facilitating informed legal choices to support our ambitious growth strategies. This role encompasses a wide array of legal responsibilities, including corporate governance, intellectual property, employment law, and litigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume primary accountability for all legal functions within the organization, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to the Supervisory Board and the Audit and Risk Committee, addressing potential legal and risk considerations in alignment with the firm's commercial goals, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate events, and litigation matters.
  • Manage relationships with external legal advisors for business and commercial operations, excluding employment law but including group litigation.
  • Mentor and develop senior in-house legal professionals, guiding them on their journey to becoming General Counsel.
  • Collaborate with the Alter Domus Academy to design and implement compliance training programs, ensuring all employees understand their legal and compliance obligations.
  • As a senior leader, drive organizational change when necessary, effectively communicating and guiding the team to enhance employee development and engagement.
  • Foster a culture of compliance and risk management to mitigate financial, operational, and reputational risks.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Alter Domus brand and culture, promoting our values and Employer Value Proposition to clients and stakeholders.
  • Maintain a strong focus on cost management and budget discipline, instilling a culture of accountability throughout the organization.
  • Ensure adherence to the highest standards of Environmental, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) practices.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess over 20 years of experience as a Chief Legal Officer or Senior Partner in a law firm, seeking a strategic role in their career. You will be a fully qualified and licensed attorney with the following qualifications:

  • A proven history of serving as a Chief Legal Officer or Senior Partner, with extensive experience in providing legal guidance on commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and corporate governance.
  • In-depth knowledge of listing regulations and governance requirements for publicly traded companies, with the ability to lead internal company secretary functions.
  • Experience working with founder-led or private equity-backed firms experiencing rapid growth.
  • A global perspective and intellectual curiosity, enabling effective collaboration across regions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build trust, navigate complexity, and negotiate effectively.
  • Decisive and persuasive, capable of engaging with C-level executives and high-profile clients while providing constructive legal insights.
  • Comfortable operating at all organizational levels with political sensitivity.
  • A strong commitment to integrity and ethical standards.
