Position Overview

The UK Civil Service is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team at the Royal Naval Distribution Authority (RNDA). This role is pivotal in supporting the operational readiness of naval forces through effective management of cryptographic resources.

Role Summary

The RNDA operates under the Base Security Organisation and is directly accountable to the commanding officer. This position offers a unique opportunity for individuals with strong judgement and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

The Alternate Crypto Custodian will collaborate with both naval and civilian personnel, ensuring comprehensive accountability for all cryptographic items. This includes overseeing the secure handling, distribution, and disposal of these items, with meticulous record-keeping and control measures in place. The successful candidate will work closely with the Crypto Custodian within a specialized team, engaging in a variety of stimulating and challenging tasks. Together, you will serve as the primary advisors on cryptographic security, implementing the necessary protective measures for cryptographic holdings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the receipt, storage, issuance, and return of cryptographic equipment.
  • Providing expert advice to naval staff and shore establishments.
  • Offering out-of-hours on-call support on a rotational basis, which includes additional compensation.
  • Assisting the Crypto Custodian in the daily operations of the RNDA.

  • A reasonable level of IT proficiency.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Completion of the Crypto Custodian course within the first year of employment.
