This rewarding position will enable you to collaborate with the Endoscopy managers to provide daily leadership within the Endoscopy units. You will be an integral part of our dedicated, hardworking, and supportive team in one of our two JAG accredited Endoscopy units within the Trust. While your primary location will be the RPH endoscopy unit, you may also be required to provide support at CDH as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

We perform a comprehensive range of both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures for outpatients and inpatients, including:

Procedures at Preston Hospital encompass:

Gastrointestinal procedures such as OGD, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), and Breath Tests. Participation in the GI Emergency Bleed rota. Collaboration with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) as part of the team in the north-west. Diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures, including Endobronchial Ultrasound, Trans Bronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS/TBNA), Endobronchial Valves and coils, Thoracoscopy, Indwelling Pleural Catheter (IPC) placement, and Nasal-endoscopy for Induced Laryngeal Obstruction (ILO).

Procedures at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital include:

Gastrointestinal procedures such as OGD, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, EMR, ERCP, and Breath Tests. Involvement with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) as part of the team in the north-west. Conducting diagnostic bronchoscopies.

Your role will involve providing daily leadership for the Endoscopy team (in conjunction with the Endoscopy manager) to ensure that patients receive a positive Endoscopy experience. You will possess excellent communication skills, be forward-thinking, well-organized, and maintain a positive attitude towards flexibility and change.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

Assist and support the Endoscopy Manager in the safe and effective management of the area, including personnel management, facilities, and associated systems and processes. Collaborate closely with the Endoscopy Manager to ensure maintenance and ongoing compliance with JAG accreditation. Serve as a role model, presenting a positive image of yourself, your team, and the organization. Take responsibility for the delivery and coordination of care through appropriate professional practice, delegation, and supervision of duties performed by junior staff. Ensure a high standard of nursing care is delivered by yourself and others, based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care to meet patients' needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines. Set, monitor, and maintain standards of care to enhance the patient experience and outcomes. Proactively manage risks and maintain patient safety, adhering to health, safety, and security legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organizations as required to ensure seamless care. Promote patient education and health promotion initiatives. Foster equality in care and practice by recognizing, respecting, and meeting the needs and choices of individuals. Ensure the care environment is safe, well-equipped, and compliant with hygiene and cleanliness standards. Participate in the education and training of junior staff, encouraging their professional growth and development. Maintain and develop your own professional competence and seek to expand your knowledge and skills within the scope of your role and professional practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential Criteria

Appropriate NMC Registration. NMC recognized Mentorship qualification. Diploma or Degree. Evidence of continued professional development in Endoscopy.

Desirable Criteria

Post-registration qualification in the area of specialty. Level 2 or 3 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent. Minimum of two years of experience within the endoscopy setting.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential Criteria

Evidence of clinical competence in the area of specialty, e.g., Endoscopy. Evidence of leadership experience and learning. Awareness of recent advances within nursing practice. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding relevant to clinical practice, including policies and procedure guidelines.

Desirable Criteria

Experience in implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice. Experience in budgetary management. Knowledge of ethical issues.
