The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for palliative care, focusing on the unique needs and circumstances of each patient. You will have the chance to further develop your expertise in palliative care while collaborating with seasoned professionals who have been dedicated to serving the community for over three decades.
Key Responsibilities

- Hold registration on the NMC register with at least two years of post-registration experience.

About St Catherine's Hospice
St Catherine's is committed to the professional growth of its staff through esteemed educational, training, and mentorship programs. The successful candidate will have access to fully funded opportunities for the Level 6 Palliative Care Practice university course, along with 50% funding for additional degree modules.
Job Duties
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and overseeing the delivery of patient-centered care using a holistic approach.
- Taking on the role of Nurse Coordinator as per the rota, leading the nursing team.
- Making critical decisions, especially during off-hours, regarding symptom management or changes in a patient's condition, and liaising with the on-call medical team as necessary.
- Administering prescribed medications in accordance with hospice policies and protocols.
- Thoughtfully addressing the care needs of patients.
- Collaborating within the hospice and broader multidisciplinary team, taking the lead in discharge planning for patients.
- Maintaining accurate patient records in compliance with the Data Protection Act and NMC guidelines, utilizing an electronic patient record system.
- Communicating effectively and sensitively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Reporting adverse events, accidents, near misses, and errors promptly through the DATIX system.
- Having a thorough understanding of hospice policies and procedures.
- Continuously updating your clinical skills to provide high-quality care.
- Participating in educational and training opportunities to maintain and enhance your knowledge and skills.
- Actively engaging in your annual personal development plan and contributing to the appraisal of team members.
- Assuming the role of fire commander during off-hours in the event of a fire.
- Complying with NMC registration requirements.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Registered Nurse on NMC register part 1 or 12.
- Willingness to undertake a Palliative Care Certificate.
Desirable:
- Palliative Care Certificate.
- Diploma in health and social care.
- Experience in mentorship/teaching and assessing in clinical practice.
Experience
Essential:
- Two years of post-registration experience.
- Experience in leading a shift and managing personnel (Nurse Coordinator role).
Desirable:
- Experience providing palliative care in various settings.
Other Requirements
Essential:
- Resilience to work effectively in a palliative care environment.

- Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English.
