Join our esteemed ENDOSCOPY team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Lead Endoscopy Nurse.

Our department is dynamic, ambitious, and forward-thinking, seeking a committed, enthusiastic, and resilient individual to enhance our nursing team.

This role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Endoscopy management team, providing daily leadership within the Endoscopy units. You will be part of our dedicated and friendly team in one of our two JAG accredited Endoscopy facilities. While primarily based in one unit, you may be required to support operations at another site as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

We perform a diverse array of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures for both outpatient and inpatient populations, including:

Procedures at Preston Hospital:

Gastrointestinal procedures such as OGD, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), and Breath Tests. Participation in the GI Emergency Bleed rota. Collaboration with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) as part of the regional team. Diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures, including Endobronchial Ultrasound, Trans Bronchial Needle Aspiration, Endobronchial Valves and Coils, Thoracoscopy, Indwelling Pleural Catheter placement, and Nasal-endoscopy for Induced Laryngeal Obstruction.

Procedures at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital:

Gastrointestinal procedures including OGD, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, EMR, ERCP, and Breath Tests. Involvement with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Conducting diagnostic bronchoscopies.

Your role will encompass providing daily leadership to the Endoscopy team, ensuring that patients receive a positive experience throughout their endoscopic journey. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, forward-thinking, and organizational abilities, along with a positive attitude towards adaptability and change.

Job Duties

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Supporting the Endoscopy Manager in the effective management of the unit, including personnel, facilities, and associated processes. Collaborating closely with the Endoscopy Manager to maintain compliance with JAG accreditation standards. Acting as a role model, presenting a positive image of the team and organization. Overseeing the delivery and coordination of care through appropriate professional practice, delegation, and supervision of junior staff. Ensuring high standards of nursing care are delivered based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to meet patient needs in accordance with local and national standards. Setting, monitoring, and maintaining care standards to enhance patient experience and outcomes. Proactively managing risks and ensuring patient safety in compliance with health, safety, and security regulations. Communicating relevant information to the multidisciplinary team and external organizations to ensure seamless patient care. Promoting patient education and health awareness. Advocating for equality in care by recognizing and respecting individual needs and choices. Ensuring a safe and well-equipped care environment that meets hygiene and cleanliness standards. Participating in the education and training of junior staff, fostering professional growth and development. Maintaining and enhancing personal professional competence and seeking to expand knowledge and skills within the role.

Qualifications & Education

Essential Qualifications

Valid NMC Registration. NMC recognized Mentorship qualification. Diploma or Degree in Nursing. Evidence of continued professional development in Endoscopy.

Desirable Qualifications

Post-registration qualification in a relevant specialty. Level 2 or 3 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent. Minimum of two years’ experience in an endoscopy setting.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential Knowledge

Demonstrated clinical competence in Endoscopy. Evidence of leadership experience and learning. Awareness of recent advancements in nursing practice. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding relevant to clinical practice, including policies and guidelines.

Desirable Knowledge

Experience in implementing changes to enhance patient care and nursing practice. Familiarity with budgetary management. Understanding of ethical issues in healthcare.
