Join our dedicated team in a dynamic 33-bedded surgical unit specializing in general, colorectal, upper GI, urology, and emergency procedures. Our ward is known for its welcoming atmosphere, where we prioritize education, skill enhancement, and leadership development.

With the support of our experienced staff, including five charge nurses and two new ward managers, we are committed to empowering you to excel in providing exceptional care to our patients who rely on our expertise.

Key Responsibilities

As a leader in the ward, you will coordinate daily operations, participate in medical rounds, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and mentor ward staff. This role will enhance your nursing capabilities, knowledge, and leadership style, preparing you to handle diverse situations effectively.

Our surgical unit fosters a supportive environment where all inquiries are addressed, and guidance is readily available. The team comprises specialists in various fields, including Colorectal, Urology, Upper GI, Vascular, General Surgery, and Orthopaedics. You will care for patients who are acutely ill or undergoing pre- and post-operative procedures, while also engaging in medication administration and facilitating safe discharges. This role offers numerous learning opportunities in collaboration with educators and practice development facilitators.

To maintain effective communication, we conduct regular team meetings, daily safety briefings, and monthly newsletters, ensuring an open-door policy for any additional questions.

Detailed Job Description and Main Duties

In this surgical ward, you will care for patients undergoing various surgical procedures, including but not limited to appendectomies, cholecystectomies, bowel resections, stoma formations, stent insertions, amputations, angioplasties, and laparotomies.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating ward activities in collaboration with ward managers.
  • Facilitating safe patient discharges and managing admissions and transfers.
  • Supporting the ward team in delivering high-quality care.

This position offers opportunities for further training, enabling you to conduct ward audits, participate in appraisals, utilize health roster systems, and promote team learning through educational sessions in partnership with our clinical education team.
