Job Overview

Greetings, I am Jessica Wolstenholme, the manager of Ward 8. We are in search of a dedicated, skilled, and enthusiastic pediatric nurse who is committed to providing exceptional care to children in our community.

Recent enhancements in our services have led us to aim for two band 6 lead nurses on each shift, ensuring optimal care delivery.

Our goal is to create a positive experience for all young patients and their families at our Trust. Key Responsibilities

As a band 6 nurse in pediatrics on Ward 8, you will oversee the daily operations of the unit, collaborating closely with the ward manager. This position encompasses both clinical and leadership responsibilities, including:

  • Conducting staff evaluations and managing the duty roster in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Coordinating with the clinical educator regarding training initiatives.
  • Managing staff attendance and performance issues.

Our ward team collaborates closely with various departments, including the Pediatric Assessment Unit, children's outpatient services, and community pediatric services. Our multidisciplinary team includes physiotherapists, pharmacists, play specialists, patient experience coordinators, and mental health professionals.

Job Duties

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the efficient daily operation of the pediatric ward while providing strong leadership and maintaining care standards.
  • Overseeing the planning, delivery, and assessment of care tailored to meet the individual health and wellness needs of patients, aligned with Trust values and professional nursing frameworks.
  • Effectively managing the area, including personnel, facilities, and associated systems and processes.
  • Acting as a role model, projecting a positive image of yourself, your team, and the organization.
  • Coordinating and delivering care through appropriate professional practices.
  • Ensuring high nursing standards are upheld by yourself and others, based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care to meet patient needs in accordance with established local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Setting, monitoring, and maintaining care standards to enhance patient experiences and outcomes.
  • Proactively managing risks and ensuring patient safety, adhering to health, safety, and security regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Promoting patient education and health awareness.
  • Communicating relevant information to the multidisciplinary team and external organizations as necessary to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Continuously developing your professional competence and seeking to expand your knowledge and skills within your role and professional practice.

Qualifications & Education

Essential Requirements

  • Valid NMC Registration
  • RN8 or RNC for Children's Nursing Positions
  • NMC recognized Mentorship qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing education or professional development
  • Level 3 Safeguarding certification

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant field
  • Additional relevant courses or qualifications
  • APLS certification or willingness to pursue

Knowledge & Experience

Essential Knowledge

  • Understanding of current changes in Nursing Practice
  • Familiarity with Clinical Governance and its relevance to practice
  • Knowledge of pertinent policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated competency during internship
  • Evidence of clinical proficiency in the specialty area or willingness to expand clinical skills, including venepuncture and cannulation

Desirable Knowledge

  • Awareness of ethical considerations
  • Understanding of Leadership and Management principles
  • Experience in research and development
  • Familiarity with CQC standards and processes
