Position Summary

The Digital Communications team at the Cabinet Office is at the forefront of showcasing how government policies influence the lives of citizens across the United Kingdom.

This position presents an opportunity for a seasoned photographer to take on a significant challenge, focusing on capturing the daily engagements of the Prime Minister, cabinet members, and key events at the Cabinet Office.

Your imagery will reach a vast audience, potentially impacting their understanding of government initiatives. Through compelling visual narratives, your work will convey essential government messages and highlight events that are central to public discourse.

You will visually represent the efforts of ministers and the broader government, enhancing engagement across the Cabinet Office's digital platforms.

Creativity will be essential as you develop innovative ways to illustrate the government's impact on everyday lives, simplifying complex policies to resonate with the general public.

Collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, including ministers, press officers, and special advisors, will be a key aspect of your role.

Candidate Profile

You are a skilled Photographer with a robust portfolio and experience in media, whether in journalism, television, sports, social media, or public relations.

As a creative and adaptable self-starter, you thrive in independent work settings and are proactive in meeting deadlines.

Your understanding of image utilization across various social media platforms is strong, and while familiarity with political contexts is beneficial, your ability to translate intricate communications into engaging digital content is paramount.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Digital Communications to effectively capture and promote the work of the Prime Minister and Ministers through visual media.
  • Lead the photography efforts during both domestic and international visits, ensuring high-quality imagery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with press officers, special advisors, and events teams to integrate imagery and digital content into media strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of the digital communications community across government, working with other digital leaders to uphold high standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Prime Minister's photographic archive.
  • Guide junior team members in photographic best practices.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in photojournalism, preferably with a national or regional publication or agency.
  • Proven ability to provide photography for various social media and traditional media platforms.
  • Proficient in photo editing software such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Photo Mechanic.
  • A keen eye for capturing compelling images and the narratives they convey.
  • Expertise in digital content and photography platforms.
  • Prior experience in content management, ideally in a related field.
  • Knowledge of high-end camera equipment and proficiency in its use.
  • Experience in live filing from camera and delivering content promptly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a quick learning ability.

Additional Information

It is expected that a minimum of 60% of your working hours will be spent at your primary workplace, with requirements to attend other locations for official duties also contributing to this attendance level.
